Christopher M. James is the William H. Dial/SunTrust Eminent Scholar in Finance and Economics at the University of Florida. He has also held academic positions at the University of Michigan, the University of Oregon, and Cambridge University. In addition, he has served as the senior economic advisor to the Comptroller of the Currency and as a consultant and visiting scholar at the FDIC, Federal Reserve Board of Governors and the San Fransico Federal Reserve Bank. He received a Ph.D. in Economics and an MBA in Finance from the University of Michigan.

His research has been published extensively in academic and professional journals in the areas of banking, corporate finance and applied econometrics. He has served as an editor or associate editor of several journals, including, Journal of FinanceJournal of Financial EconomicsJournal of Financial IntermediationJournal of Banking and FinanceJournal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis and Journal of Financial Services Research. Professor James’s current research focuses on the impact of technological change on bank infrastructure, and innovations in bank lending.
