Gary Petersen is the chairman of  Cornerstone Bank and Cornerstone Holding Company. Gary brings experience in North Dakota and South Dakota banking including metro areas, rural areas, Indian Reservations, and the Bakken oil region. Starting his career as regulator brought a diverse perspective as Gary moved into leadership of a small-town bank. Small town banking in itself brings diversity in that even leaders end up fulfilling various roles. Gary’s experience became even more diverse as he led his small-town bank through a successful merger resulting in growth to 14 locations. Gary has always understood the importance of industry and community involvement. He is currently a member of the 9th District Federal Reserve Community Depository Institutions Advisory Council. He serves as Chairman of the Bank of North Dakota Advisory Board, the only state owned bank in the country. He is a past Director and Chairman for the North Dakota Bankers Association Board and was previously a member of the North Dakota Department of Banking and Financial Institutions Board. Gary has served on numerous other community boards and has been an active volunteer for community events. He earned his Bachelor of Business Administration and Juris Doctorate degrees from the University of North Dakota and is a member of the State Bar Association of North Dakota Over the years, Gary has been retained to participate in many speaking and media engagements covering in particular regulatory issues and specialized topics such as the energy and agricultural sectors of the economy.
