Antonio Salazar is the commissioner of the Maryland Department Financial Regulation. Commissioner Salazar is an attorney who has worked his entire 39 career in the banking and financial services field. He is entering his eighth year of service as Maryland’s Commissioner of Financial Regulation. His office is Maryland’s consumer financial protection agency and financial regulator, which is responsible for the chartering, licensing and supervision of all state-chartered depository and financial service-providing entities and individuals. As Maryland’s financial regulator, he is an active member of the Conference of State Bank Supervisors where he serves as chair-elect of the board of directors and as a member of the Non-Depository Supervisory Committee.  Commissioner Salazar has regular contact with federal regulatory authorities, other state bank regulators as well as state and federal legislators and is committed to strengthening community banks and the dual banking system.  To that end, he has overseen his Office's early adoption of the State Examination System, its sponsorship of various financial service model laws, including the Model Money Transmission Act, its accreditation as a banking, mortgage, and money service business regulatory agency, and its work with the innovative Maryland Access to Banking Act which seeks to incent community bank investment in underbanked communities. In Maryland, he is also a member of the Maryland Commission on Financial Education and Capability.
